A New Year, A New You

It has been a while since I have written and there several reasons for that.

  • I got lost in my vision

  • I felt insecure about where I was going with my future goals

  • I didn’t feel like I had a good message for you

  • I don’t like my blog and want to make drastic changes

  • The pandemic hit (are we still allowed to use this as an excuse?)

  • And the biggest reason was that I stopped prioritizing my writing and chose to use my time in other areas.

However, one thing that I continue to hear is to keep going and making progress towards my future goals. If you want to actually meet your goals, you must take small steps every single day towards that goal, or else your brain stops being motivated for your future. I am really good at surviving (doing the dishes, picking up after the kids, getting groceries, cooking, etc.) I am also really good at self-care (detox baths, exercising, eating well, meditating, reading books). But none of these actual activities activates my brain to think or move towards the future. So here is to a new year and I plan to be more open and vulnerable on here and write more consistently even though I want to make massive changes to all of this. My visions are big as where I want to go, and I know that bringing you along with me is important. Not only does it keep me accountable, but I also hope (part of my vision) to inspire something inside of you so that you too can start making those steps towards your future goals. I am not a certified life coach, nor a certified nutritionist, nor a therapist, but I have certainly studied, surrounded myself around these people, and have practiced a lot on myself that I feel comfortable helping and serving others in these areas as best as I can.

So here I am right now and ready to start supporting you in your goals and dreams. We all start at different places. We stop and lose focus (I am one to do this myself, so no judgment here), but let’s start making a commitment to ourselves to start making at least 3 small steps each day towards those goals. What does your future self look like? What is your future self doing? Are you more fit? Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? Are you traveling more? Are you debt-free? Did you rebuild some relationships? Is your marriage stronger? Have you stepped away from bad relationships? These questions are important. The better we can visualize our future, the more realistic it will feel in our brain and our brain will actually think the future is already happening. Pretty cool don’t you think? Have you ever written down your future goals and dreams in the present tense? For example, it may sound something like this:

I am so grateful that I am fit, sleeping well, and feeling like my best self. I appreciate everything my body has done for me, and I will continue to love and respect myself. Money is easily coming in and I love all the trips my family is able to go on. We have bonded in so many ways on our trips and exploring the world, and I have cherished each moment. I love how my marriage is stronger than it has ever been, my relationship with my kids has a strong foundation with trust, love, and respect. I am exactly where I need to be as am loved just as I am.

Can you visualize this person? Do you see what she looks like and what type of life she is living? It is crazy, but I am telling you it works. I write out all of my goals and visions (some long-term and some short-term) into the present tense and read them every single day. Then I make a list for the day and list 3 things that I need to be focused on towards my future goals. If I don’t know how to start, then my task is to simply look on youtube, read a book, or ask someone about how to achieve it. Having a plan and taking action on that plan is how you achieve your future goals.

No matter what your goals are for this year, your goals and future self will be much easier to accomplish if you are feeling good and incorporating healthy habits. Even if your goals are specifically focused on finances, leaving a bad relationship, or changing your career, your brain, your energy, your ability to make the best decision will have a lot to do with how well your body is functioning. Sleep, exercise, eating well, and living in a clean environment are all critical for your health. During the month of January, I am focusing on just that. Cleaning out the cobwebs a bit and looking at the areas I can uplevel so that I can continue to keep my brain sharp, feel happy inside, and live my best life. Let’s be honest, I am certainly not going to be living my best life if I am constantly tired, yelling at the kids, tripping over toys, and shoving clothes in drawers. So, let’s dive in on some really simple ways to uplevel that will not cost you any extra time in your day, will support your health, and give you the clarity to focus on those goals.

Most of you who are reading this are oilers, so whether you are new to the oil life (#welcome) or have been using your oils for a while, let’s dive into the wellness lifestyle overview. Digestion

Here is an example of what I might eat each day:

  • Intermittent Fasting until about 12/1:00 (I drink bulletproof coffee each morning which does not interfere with my fasting)

  • Steamed spinach with 2 tbsps of butter, topped with a fried egg (cooked in 1 tbsp of butter), broccoli sprouts half of an avocado, and flavored with hymalian salt, and pepper

  • Snack - sliced apples with almond butter and grass-fed butter or a smoothie with our nutrition line. I try and keep my smoothies low on the fruit though. Just a few berries and then pack the rest with greens like dinosaur kale or spinach.

  • Dinner - This is when I will eat my carbs as carbs will make you want to sleep and there is no better time to sleep than at night, right? I will also have some protein and veggies.

    • If I have a sweet tooth after dinner, I will grab some fruit such as an orange or make myself some tea.

Hydration

We have all heard and have been told to drink more water, but seriously, we need to drink more water! Our bodies are made up of 80% water. We’re essentially cucumbers with anxiety! We should be replenishing our body with 1/2 oz of water for every pound we weigh. For example, a 130-pound person should be drinking 75 oz of water every day to keep your digestion, brain, and body functioning regularly.

If you do not like drinking water, but know you need to, add a few drops of Lemon, Tangerine, Wild Orange, or Grapefruit essential oils to help flavor your water, aid in digestion, and cleanse your body.

2. Exercise

Post Workout:

Movement is essential to having a healthy body. Exercise does not have to be a long and exhausting routine. I really do think that because we think we need to go into this full routine that we get overwhelmed and run out of time. Everyone can fit in a 10-minute workout. I promise. If you can’t, then you simply don’t want to. It has actually shown that those that do HIIT workouts (short workouts that increase your heart rate quickly) are getting better exercise than those that do hour-long spin classes. You are certainly welcome to go to a spin class, but just know that you can lose weight, have muscle tone, and feel great with just a 10-30 minute workout at your home.

Exercise can boost your metabolism, support healthy blood pressure, give you mental clarity, and support healthy digestion and heart function. I ditched the gym membership several years ago and have become more fit and toned with my 30 minutes or less exercise routine right at my home. I also try and get a 20-minute walk (I am walking the dogs, so I am not doing any speed walking) before noon to help support my circadian rhythm.

Whether you are an avid exerciser, or just getting back into the habit, soothing your sore muscles is part of any workout routine.

Post-workout, I love using the Deep Blue Line or taking a relaxing bath.

To your bath add:

  • 2 cups of Epsom Salts

  • ½ cup Baking Soda

  • 3 drops Frankincense

  • 2 drops Copaiba

  • 2 drops Lemongrass

  • 1 drop Marjoram

Mix your oils, salts, and baking soda together, and then add to your bathwater.

Soak and relax.

**Post bath, if you plan to use your Deep Blue Rub, wait 20 minutes before applying. You’ll thank me. 😉

Energy:

Sometimes we are really tired and need some extra energy to get us going. I know so well how it feels to be out of the exercise routine and trying to get back into the habit to move my body. Every ounce of my being tells me no and to avoid it. But I have a trick for you that will rock your world! Creating healthy and natural energy gets you out of that rut very quickly!

Grab Mito2Max before a workout or long day of work. Mito2Max is a healthy, long-term alternative to caffeinated drinks and supplements for increased energy and vitality.

In my opinion, Mito2Max does not get as much praise as it should. Happy Joints and Muscles:

As we talk about exercise and you are either getting back into the habit of wanting to create even more muscle tone, soreness is no joke! It can also make it really hard to continue to work out each day if it is hard to move your body. This is why I love the deep blue line. I am telling you as an advocate exerciser, this deep blue line has saved me and I have been able to continue to work out.

Healthy Inflammatory Response

One of the reasons it can be hard to get our bodies exercising again is because of the extra inflammation we are carrying around. The foods we eat (talking to you processed sugar and nightshades), stress (thanks pandemic), lack of sleep, and toxins around our home can all create over inflamed bodies. Extra inflammation wears us down, makes us tired and sick feeling, and does not give us that willpower to get up and move. Creating a healthy inflammatory response in our bodies will turn that around, plus create a healthier immune system, and make us a poor host to viruses. I would like to share with you a few products we use daily to help create just this.

Turmeric powder has been all the rage in the health and wellness world, but the Turmeric essential oil is where we really find the greatest benefits of the spice.

Healthy Breathing

Breathe makes it easy to take simple respiratory support on the go when seasonal threats are high (just swipe on the bottoms of your feet or over your chest). Roll Breathe Touch on your chest before exercising to support opening your airways. Rub on neck, chest, back, or bottom of feet to promote restful sleep. I have become obsessed with these diffuser blends with Breathe, especially during this winter season to help support our breathing.

 

3. Rest and Stress Management

Better Sleep:

Ever feel like a good night’s rest or even a nap can solve almost all of your problems?

  • Work is insane. 👉Take a nap.

  • Kids just won’t stop. 👉Take a nap.

  • The world feels like it’s falling apart. 👉Nap.

Sleep is known to improve your mood and give your body the opportunity to repair and regenerate. Approximately 80 percent of health problems are estimated to be the result of persistent stress. Essential oils provide dynamic support to help relax, get consistent quality sleep and create an uplifting environment so you feel centered no matter what life throws your way.

Diffuse some Adaptiv and pop 1-2 Serenity softgels and say good night!

Some other important areas to look into if you aren’t getting good quality sleep:

  • A good mattress + pillow

  • Turn off all screens an hour before bedtime

  • Make your room dark

  • Read a book

  • Take 1 tsp of raw honey before bed

  • Take a relaxing bath before bed

Stress Management:

Stress is an area that can significantly impact our sleep which can impact our next day’s performance and start a vicious cycle! Everyone responds to stress differently, and therefore everyone uses something different to support themselves.

Along with proper sleep, exercise, daily meditation, and talking to a close friend, essential oils are a wonderful tool to help support your body through difficult periods.

While meditating, diffuse your favorite calming oils. I love to diffuse Balance, Adaptiv, Citrus Bliss, or Cheer to help ground me and allow me to release stress.

Another fantastic product to support stress is the Adaptiv line. I may just scream praises about this product from the rooftops! But, you can’t really blame me.

4. Reducing Toxic Load:

This is an area that I did not initially prioritize when uplevling my health, however, it is when I decided to work on this did I start seeing and feeling the biggest change. I was absolutely amazed about how much better I felt and is now one of my favorite areas to really help support and teach others in.

I will show you a few simple ways to switch out some everyday products around your home to help support your health.

The Kitchen:

This past Convention, we got a whole new line of household products. The Abōde Line has been amazing!!

The Bathroom

When it comes to all the things in the bathroom that have toxins in them, I bet that hand soap and lotion aren’t the first things you think of. Which is a bigger red flag than eating sushi at a gas station.   • 👉 Perfume - enough said (remember “fragrance”?)

  • 👉 Put on deodorant - aluminum anyone?

And those are just on the top of my head. Thinking back to the small, daily habits that add up over time, here is where we can really stand to cut out a lot of toxins. Switch your deodorant to the Balance deodorant. Change out your toothpaste to On Guard Toothpaste. Just consistent and easy swaps that slowly over time add up.

Deodorant:

Did you know that parabens (a common toxic chemical found in deodorants) can act like estrogen and disrupt your hormones? You are also applying this on your lymph nodes and near your breast, a very important area to keep happy cells and blood flow. Making this switch costs you no extra time at all! Sweating is actually really important so anytime a deodorant blocks sweat, your body will simply find a different place to release the sweat. Also tip - the healthier you eat and the more you detox, the less your sweat stinks. So toss that deodorant in the trash and grab a non-toxic deodorant. Doterra sells several different great options or you can make your own recipe. I’ll be honest, I simply roll on Immortelle (just need a few swipes) once a day and I am good to go. Recipe 1:

  • 8 drops Clary Sage

  • 8 drops Siberian Fir

  • 8 drops Melaleuca

Fill the rest with your choice of deodorant base like fractionated coconut oil or a magnesium spray.

Benefits: Melaleuca is highly purifying, cleanses the skin, and supports the immune system function, Clary Sage has a lovely light aroma and is wonderful for supporting the hormonal system, Siberian Fir is soothing to the skin, is grounding, helps to ease the emotions.
